Altcoins
might be tempting, but Sam Price, host of CryptoLifers, has a clear warning, tread lightly.
In a conversation with TheStreet
Roundtable
host Rob Nelson, Price broke down his strategy for navigating the chaotic world of low-cap tokens.
“Altcoins are treachery,” he said, citing how volatile they can be. Instead of jumping in too early, he waits for signs of strength in the market. “I just wait for the market to get frothy. I wait for
Bitcoin
to get back above a key level… then more new tokens come out, there’s more liquidity.”
That’s when Price strikes — but carefully. “I swing trade things that already have a bit of movement,” he explained, pointing to coins like Hyperliquid that show promise and volume. If smaller, riskier coins start moving underneath that, he’ll take a calculated shot — but only when the market is hot.
Price noted not going all in. “It’s got to be a smaller percentage of my portfolio,” he said. “There should be a main staple in the bigger juggernauts… which gives you ability to sprinkle into the lower volume coins.”
His golden rule? Take profits early. “When you’re up one or two x, just take that money back quickly… the odds of you going right back to zero [are] pretty high in a few days.”
Price also urges traders to set goals and be mentally strong. “Too many beginners… put five grand in, make five grand, and all they do is focus on the $30K they didn’t make,” he said. “You got to be grateful for your wins… and stop chasing these five to 10x.”
“Comparison is the best way to steal happiness,” he concluded.
